The True Believer
The less justified a person is in claiming excellence for their own self, the more ready they are to claim all excellence for their nation, their religion, their race or their holy cause.
—Eric Hoffer (1902-1983)
No matter where I go, there but for the grace of no gods, I am.

The less justified a person is in claiming excellence for their own self, the more ready they are to claim all excellence for their nation, their religion, their race or their holy cause.
—Eric Hoffer (1902-1983)
[I am] inclined to think that not far from the invention of fire must rank the invention of doubt.
—Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895)
The Christian religion not only was at first attended with miracles, but even at this day cannot be believed by any reasonable person without one.
—David Hume (1711-1776)
It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of what he was never reasoned into.
—Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), Anglo-Irish priest
A belief is not true because it is useful.
—Henri Frédéric Amiel (1821-1881) Swiss poet and philosopher.
MSNBC and Fox are two sides of the same coin, you know like rewards and punishment, tools for divide et impera (divide and conquer). Combined with religion these tools are the last great forms of mind control. Been going on since Napoleon, Caesar, and even before then. With the advent of the Internet it has gotten oh so much easier. Oh, and I find it very revealing that this said “divide and conquer” strategy is blamed on the Devil in the Bible. I think it’s always been a case of shoot the messenger. Like Col. Jessep so famously said: “You can’t handle the truth.” Just my $.02, as always.
On the day old Curtis died nobody came to pray
old preacher said some words and they chunked him in the clay
well he lived a lifetime playin the black man’s blues
and on the day he lost his life that’s all he had to lose.
Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past
And with his crutch, it’s old age, and it’s wisdom
It whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary
Yeah, ain’t but one thing to do
Spend my nat’ral life with you,
You’re the finest dog I knew, so fine.
When you’re old and your eyes are dim,
There ain’t no old Shep gonna happen again,
We’ll still go walking down country lanes,
I’ll sing the same old songs,
Hear me call your name.♫♪♫
I am looking forward to a large family gathering here at the house to celebrate. Family time is the best! I don’t care what anyone says.
OK – what are the ingredients of any so-called religion? Any different from a “cosmology” or world view?
Dogmas = Givens
Doctrine = Teachings
Morality = Mores
Faith = In ______ we trust
Religious Fundamentals = Basic or Core Values
Rituals abound in everyday life with or without religion.
Inspiration – Inspiration
etc.
Another Janetism, or two:
“It just doesn’t make any sense if that makes sense.”
Oh really? And another thing:
“That’s the problem: the cups you’re drinking throw everything off.”
There are more people in the United States who cannot read than who doubt the existence of Yahweh.
